OMFG, excited.  I finally have a camera that's capable of taking some decent photographs of my reef tank!!

I got the Canon EOS Rebel T2i w 18-55mm lens....  Beautiful camera.

here's one of my first shots I ever took with the camera.  I have my Cree XP-E Royal Blue's on 100%, no whites at all.

I took the picture in RAW format, and used photoshop, added a curves adjustment layer and brought down the blue.

here's the result!!!

I'm JUST getting my feet wet..... any questions, comments, tips.... are welcome

nope, my sand is bright white.  it's because the picture was taken under 100% royal blue LED....

the only colour spectrum I had edited in photoshop was the blue.  I spent maybe 2 minutes in post-editing... I know it can be fine tuned.  just barely skimming the surface

here's the unedited picture

That camera is top notch, I have a canon rebel xt, love it love it.

For RAW, just dial out a smidge of the blue, not all of it.  As far as I know, there's no way to really get the look of the CREE royal blue...that 70's blacklight bulb look that you can see when it's in person.  Even in raw, it only gives you a taste of how much the coral glows.  And people think the glow is photoshopped in too!  I find it also shows a weird red/purple glow on rocks.

thanks... I've had the camera for less than 24 hours.... still lot's to learn (both the camera, and photoshop) .... I'll be doing a lot of reading.

I think I've downloaded/read through at least 2 dozen DSLR magazines already lol

here's the first time my clownfish hasn't looked like an orange blur in pictures.

this is under 100% RB and 100% Cool White..... possibly with a camera flash too lol

you can see the difference in "true to life colour"... one of the clown fish in the top pictures should be orange

Last pic looks very natural in color, a little out of focus maybe? or it could be shutter speed.

I'm just starting to learn about my canon eos rebel t3 and photo shop myself.

If you took the shot in raw, and uploaded using eos utility, then opened up photoshop, scroll on files at the top, then scroll down to (browse in bridge). It should open things up in bridge so you can see a lot of info like aperture, shutter, iso, etc of the certain pic you want info on.

probably the hard way to open bridge. save as a short cut/ to the task bar

A few things you might want to look into is: kenko extension tubes, 50 mm 1.8 lens, temron 90mm, steady tripod, shutter remote, remote shooting, macro rail, flash's,focus stacking.

Thanks for the compliments and advice everyone.

If anyone's interested I'm accumulating a very large amount of digital DSLR photography magazines... I haven't had a chance to read through them yet but they have great tutorials with good example pictures.

I just view the folder in details mode, then you can right click the bar at the top and add whichever columns you want displayed.

seems like the RAW (CR2) format pictures don't display the info in windows explorer though

I hit properties then detail's, but it doesn't come up with no info about aperture, shutter speed.

I like bridge, because the folder's look like the pic that's in it, instead of the same folder image on all, a lot of time's I forget to name my files.

here's my first shot with focus staking:
pennyfocusstacked.jpg

9 of the same image, combined into 1, it's suppose to Give more depth of field, because as you get closer to a object you lose depth of field.

only difference between each picture taken is that I turned the focus ring slightly after each shot then used photo shop.

going to try with a motionless ric tomorrow, I hope the algae blenny stays out of the way.

This picture has much better white balance and great DOF (depth of field) but the focus is off...probably need a faster shutter speed.
