I would assume you look for it getting bigger? Lol. Actually I am not sure. I have 2 small clams and they have both definately gotten bigger since I got them. And yes there are more scutes or scallops on the side as well.
It does look like you do have some new growth to it.

Just gotta make sure. Anything white lately in my tank has been associated with death. Not growth. So im just checking up to make sure. Lol
