My wife wants sea horses and pipe fish.... i was thinkin a clown, goby and pack it full of coral so not sure which route I'm going

I am sure that our seahorse veteran will post here, but IIRC, it is suggested a minimum of 30gallons for the seahorses that are available. Good luck on the new tank. Nanos come with their own challenges and I personally love nanos and picos. It is a sweet little tank for sure.

I think depending on the species of seahorse some need vertical height to accommodate the ascending mating dance that is vital for successful reproduction. If those species don't get it they will not breed. So the taller the better.

went to Aquariums by design today and got some live sand, dry rock and an additive to accelerate the cycle process...waiting for the cloudyness to clear up now...

Glad you kept it. It will be a great saltwater nano but at that size it is not suitable for any of the larger seahorses available in Canada (eg H. Erectus or H. Kuda). All of those need 30 gallons for one pair. I have also been told that pipefish need a 30 gallon tank for one pair. I don't know about the small blue striped pipefish though.

even in a species specific tank i couldnt keep a pipefish longer than 6 months and i had it eating cyclopeez and lots of pods i think just too little is known about their needs.... i say stuff it full of coral with a clown and a shrimp.... honestly the key here is the wife is allowing another tank :) TEACH ME YOUR TRICKS!!!! :)

So I added rock and water yesterday the cloudyness from the sand has cleared up. salinity is at 1.25 now. I also added a additive from ABD and they claimed once it's added it eliminates the cycle process and you can add fish right away but I'm leary...maybe I'll add a goby tomorrow and give it a week or two.

If it was Dr Tims One and Only. It does work really well.

If you're going to wait to add anything. Then you're going to need to provide the active bacteria an ammonia source to feed and breed. So a pinch of flake food per day would do it.

Another pointer about this product is that even though it's supposed to completely eliminated the cycle. It just makes it much less severe and quicker to end. So when you do add livestock. Take it slow. A single goby would be perfect.

Beautiful looking light. I have been looking for a light like that for my 5 gallon freshwater tank but that one is a little rich for my blood though. Not worth it for fresh water.

they are beauties, are you not afraid that maybe the tank is not finished cycling, I know someone is going to jump on me for this but, I would have added a chromis or a damsel.. a lot cheaper..
