Jut getting some options what ppls thoughts are ..I getting a new tank build at miracles ..it's a 36x24x18  Half inch polished edges rimless ...my idea was to use no canopy  I al gonna get some either al sols or similar and hang over the tank...so now I didn't get holes or overflow yet.  I still have to let them know ...do I get  it home ?...drill and do some overflow ....or get them to do the drilling and overflow?... What setup?..bean animal?...overflow in centre  with holes in bottom?....coast to coast external?  Internal?...or centre overflow  or corner overflow ?...I also have a tunze nano Wavemaker.

you will still need to put a mesh screen over the tank which defeats the purpose of the rimless look so I would just consider that when deciding on your setup.

i would have them create a weir/notch the back glass (similar to how i had the side panel on mine done) - about 2" deep and build an 24" overflow box on the outside of the tank. Do a three pipe bean animal.

I agree. Weir on the back to an external overflow. If you do a coast-to-coast design, leave some space on either side of the overflow box to drill a 1" hole on each side for return piping. That will keep the rimless look with no piping visible at all. I am going Bean Animal. Lots of fail safes in the design, which I like. Herbie method is another direction you can go but not as bullet-proof as the bean animal design.

Another option is this... Will save you lots of money  :) http://www.aquariumpros.ca/pp-classifieds//showproduct.php?product=30178 I just saw this on AP last night. It is very similar to what you are getting built, only larger. It has the look and proper plumbing for a rimless tank. Just thought I would mention it.

it would work - you will just need to adjust the placement of the wave box and height of the wave to compensate.

the wavebox will need to be in the back corner facing down the length of the aquarium. I would suggest building a rock formation to hide it but that's purely for aesthetics.

give me a shout if you need help setting it up.

With the plumbing in the back you will need to make sure the tank is about 6"+ off the back wall or you will never be able to service the pipes coming out of the over flow box. Your cabinet can built in such a way to hide that large rear gap with a false wall/door.

2 inches is pretty low, that would put your water level @ 16", then add some sand and your only going to have 14-15" in water in the tank. what happened to 36x24x24?

mine is cut to just under 1" and I clean up salt creep and over spill daily from my tank. It will only get worse with a wave box.

I would recommend going to a 36x24x20 or 36*24*24 tank only because the shallow tanks require more maintenance and only look good in pictures (because you clean them up before you take start shooting)

if i could do it again i would never go rimless or shallow. It it was a coral only tank then i might go rimless but if you plan on keeping any fish (they all can jump, some more than others - ie. wrasse, gobies, etc.) be ready to stare at an ugly screen.

I was thinking about the nano tanks  but there to small.  ..the thing is I'm never home thru the week. Only 1 or 2 days I'm home ..so who ever is at the apt  they don't wanna go much bigger then what I have but wanted the  hob overflow gone  as its not low maintenance  So I only got 10 gals more then what I have ...once the kids are gone ..then it's all on one person ..to look after it all till I get home on a weekend ..

Bean Animal all the way.... When I it was time for me get back into the hobby and "modernize" I went Bean system to refit my old 200gal acrylic. Brilliant system, absolutely as silent as advertised and worry free.  The weir in the back panel and external box are "should have done's...".

Euro-bracing is a nice anti-splash compliment to a wave box and it allows you to notch and inset egg crate or mesh so it is almost invisible from normal angles.
