Hello all,

I am just looking for some recommendations/advise on this topic. I have some nitrates, nothing like I used to have but still elevated. So I am wanting to put a reactor in to reduce nitrates. I will also being running a dual carbon/gfo reactor once I get the reactors figured out and set up. I am just wondering what more experienced reefers think/use to reduce nitrates in the tank besides routine water changes. I have read lots of positive things about biopellets and at this moment that is what I am leaning towards. Again just looking for your opinions.

Regards,
Nelson

I am a firm believer on biopellets. Set and forget for the most part. Currently I am using Fauna Marin Bacto Balls to dose bacteria. Biopellets reactor breeds bacteria and these pellets contain bacteria, so the same end result of increased bacteria.

Another option is carbon dosing with vinegar, sugar or vodka. I have successfully reduced nitrates with both vinegar and vodka. I have never tried sugar. It is a much more tedious and daily task though which is why I went to biopellets.
