Unexpected Hospital stay.

Spent a week in hospital after food poisoning took out my small intestine.  (PS read up on the beef recalls very carefully!!).  Tank survived very well with just minor intervention on my daughter's part.  In fact, everything looks great in the tank, so I'm very pleased.  System: NEPTUNE APEX.

The system also helped when we went to Mexico for a week, but this was a 'whoops, going to be away a week' kind of thing, and with SPS they don't like neglect very much.

Thanks guys.  I wasn't kidding though, watch that health unit beef recall really carefully.  The food poisoning caused an infection that shut down my small intestine, giving me a total blockage.  Anyone that has ever had an NG tube stuck into their node (while conscious) will know what I'm talking about when I say I'm going to avoid beef for the next while.  I spent 4 days in urgent care, and don't care to go back.

One of many reasons I'm vegetarian ;)

Ah, but is a sick server brings out your salad....

I've got one daughter that is a vegetarian, she just broke a 104 deg fever tonight, and had issues with iron deficiency, but I respect her choice.  I don't think there's a way to completely protect yourself.  I was shocked at just how seriously ill food poisoning can make you, but I'll still eat meat, I might just go to the hospital way sooner next time.  Well... that is if I don't need surgery from this episode.  I have a colonoscopy and another CAT scan in the next 4 weeks, I'm sure I'll enjoy both.  :p

My APEX really didn't let me down though, I think I may set up a permanent IP and a webcam for it, so that if I'm away again like that I can monitor it from the hospital bed (the computer systems for each bed were pretty neat I do have to say....

I'm assuming a controller is something that keeps parameters in tank maintained?

I overcook all of my meat as I have been thorough something similar, and still continue to this day. Being lactose intolerant and allergic to milk protien I rely on meat for protien.

I alternate between soya vanilla and almond vanilla as I LOVE cereal.

A controller is a computer you can program to maintain everything from dosing pumps to heaters to lights to pumps to top off to...well anything you need it to do.  Plus a good one can text or email you when things are really getting out of whack with something.  A lot of peace of mind there.  For example, if the thermostat on one of my heaters goes (which has happened in the past), it won't just run and run and cook the tank.  The controller would kill power to the heater.  Of if PH went through the roof, it would turn off any dosing pumps.  etc etc etc.  The controller does almost everything, or at least keeps an eye on, and a record of, what happens in the tank.  They're almost a necessity unless you can sit home with the tank all day, every day.
