Hello everyone ,

I've been in the hobby for over 2 years now and it's awesome , love this hobby !

I know that there's a lot of options out there , and like most of us in this hobby it's kind of confusing and tough to make desiotions lol.

So giving a example if I were to buy a 90 -120 gallon tank , what's everyone option on getting one pre drilled from the factory and they put in the bulk head, or simply a over flow box ?

Id also like to hear about the difference between them for pros vs cons ?

IMO, if you are not afraid to drill a tank then I would go with undrilled... I think that it would give you more options for which corner or maybe center overflow... depending what you want to put in the tank.. my advise is have a plan :)

I will never suggest the use of a hob overflow box. I always suggest drilling. Yes, lots of people have successful tanks with HOB overflows, but I have seen too many fail and flood. Drill the tank, or buy predrilled, then get an internal overflow installed. I personally like the ghost over flows.

Currently I have both types of tanks. I much prefer the drilled ones because I did have a flood with my overflow box failing to syphon. However, since then I always check the top of my overflow box now to make sure there isn't too much air in it before I turn the pump back on daily and haven't had a problem since. It now works like a charm. If going with an overflow box you must be diligent in checking it every day. My flood was completely my own fault because I didn't check.
Drilled is by far a much easier setup to run and always flows properly if there is a power failure (of which I have had many) when the system comes back on. Less worry overall.

exactly. Mine wasnt necessarily my fault but it was at the same time. My return chamber got low and started blowing bubbles into the DT. From there they were sucked into the overflow and inevitably ended up loosing siphon. I found out after my wife called me freaking out about the tank overflowing.
