My Phosphates been pretty high .42  My cycle is finished and that's great. I was gonna use some HC GFO in my Phos Reactor but I couldn't find any besides I need a Maxi jet Pump as well. I've been doing some research and I came across some Phos Guard. I bought it and put it in a bag then rinsed in well and placed in my Aqua Clear 300 and tested today 24 hours later and it's down to .32 it's says it'll take 4 days so that should be right on. I used 250 ml or 1 cup in a media bag and the bag is elavated in the Aqua Clear 300 so the water flows through it.

I know Jerry (Unibob) is selling the High Cap GFO. Glad to hear your cycle is progressing and you definitely want to take care of those phosphates before the infamous hair algae begins. I was lucky enough to avoid all that stuff but I had GFO running very early in my cycle as well.

I know you were talking about vodka dosing before as well. If you are going to do it, start earlier than later to prevent any issues with corals, fish, etc. I started my pellets before I had anything in the tank whatsoever. Saying that, they still do require a feeding source present. Fish food, etc.

Not sure about the Vodka, It sounds easy enough but my skimmer isn't the best. I'll be looking to upgrade it sooner than later. I sent Jerry a PM to see what he has. I'm not putting anything in the tank til I'm ready, Couple more weeks, I don't even have enough buckets to do a proper water change. LOL

phosguard is (IMHO) the only thing I don't recommend for phosphate removal.  It's a quick fix, aluminum based phosphate remover.  Use it, get it out of there and then go with real GFO.

There has been a huge ongoing debate about phosguard, I had kind of hoped it would just disappear from the market... 1) it leeches aluminum: The only people that say it doesn't leech aluminum into your tank is seachem and the guy behind the counter selling it and 2) it strips the phosphate out of the water too quickly.  Nothing should be done fast in this hobby, and dropping phosphate overnight can be as disastrous as raising by a huge amount overnight.

Howeve,r if your tank is new, it may not make much difference, just don't leave the media in there too long.  Get some hi-cap from Jerry, it's pretty much established that iron oxide is perfectly safe for the reef system.  Aluminum, notsomuch.

Again, just my opinion, however google "phosguard leeching" and I'm sure you'll find a lot of results to read.  ROWAphos is a good product, fairly easy to get as well...

**edit  oh there's no livestock in the tank?  Where did the phosphate come from?  Used liverock?  Make sure you figure out where your high phosphates are coming from (mine were coming from a rubbermaid bin that was filling my makeup water with phosphates).  If it's coming out of the rock, keep using hi-cap until your numbers are 0.00  If it's from something else, you'll keep adding it back in (as I was doing), which can be uber frustrating.

i actually agree with salty for once...  ;)

i think your fine now because the tank is new and your not hurting anything, but like salty said: use it to lower your phosphates and then get rid of it and use the gfo to keep your p04 low...

Not sure, I'm thinking I did a few years past, Is that where you add Ammino Acids to your tank in conjunction with the Zeo vit Reactor, If that is it then yes but it was so complicated I didn't see the advantages.

I'm juiced on Guinness and around, I'll pack up the tank, and by that I mean I'll move it slightly from where it is now.

Thought I'd update you on the Phos Guard, After 24 hours it dropped from .40 to .32 now 48 hours in it's dropped to .18. Once it gets down to approx. .02 I'll remove the Media bag and do a 20 percent water change and we'll see where I go from there, no signs of Algea but it's early. I do plan on contacting Jerry and implementing the GFO on a regular basises. Unlike the Yangman My pockets aren't nearly as deep, so it's all gonna take time.

here's a cheaper alternative, there are threads on Canreef and RC.

You have links to the threads?  I can't find anything, and the only google result I can find is the link to the store selling it...  From the description, when your phosphate goes up you put in these drops??  Wouldn't that keep your phosphate levels in constant flux?
