And I should add that our gas water heater requires no power.... Check there as well :) it's back to the primitive in Lucan!

Hehe. Probably I am going to run with the power cord from my car: 30 minutes to power the fireplace, 30 minutes to power the hot water tank, 60 minutes for aquarium.

Power inverter from truck. Never used it yet. Power was out for about 6 hours recently. No issues when it came back on.
I am thinking of getting a generator thaough.
Just not sure which one, alot of choices.

Honestly, i doubt anyones tank will crash because of a 6 hour or so power outage. Problem is that a 1-2day outage can ocurr and then the poo hits the fan for me..... sump pump, sewage pit pump, 3 fridges, 2 freezers, and this cool coral reef tank i got....i bought a pricey honda cuz i see them used all over consteuction sites and fire up every time. Mine still has just under a 1/4 tank of gas and has seen about 20 hours of run time....they are super fuel efficient!

I keep my router on a ups so I can go on hydro's web site, they are pretty good at estimating how long it will be off, if more than a hour I start the genny.

i can rely on anything. ..im likley never home when power goes out ...i wouldnt worry unless its more then 6 hours of power out.  i cant expect the girls to do that stuff.  theres more important things then keeping fish tank alive ...if they die. ..just start over .

I find hydro one to be fairly poor actually at estimating the length of power outage for our area anyways.
I would never rely on their estimate to be true..... anyone who followed snipersps tank threads has seen what an estimation can lead to....

[/quote]If they say it will be off for more than an hour then I start the genny right away, If they say like 30 minutes and it is still off after an hour then I would start the genny, I won't let it go more than an hour if I can help it.
