how is that possible? What do you do that is so different? How do you control your nitrate without WC?

way too much to type here lmao. will say its not for beginners. i allow natural biological filtration through deep sand bed and fuge with macro algae and mangroves. I threw away my reefing book years ago nd bought a university marine biology book ;)

University of guelph publishes everything online as well just searching for info and getting the correct terminology to search for is a pain.

DSB, no vacuuming, except that every so often I will take off the top layer (I do get slight algae blooms on the sand during heavy feeding cycles), and I will replace it with fresh, rinsed sand. I figure I have about 2-4 inches of substrate, and I do have a CUC puttering around in there as well. To this day the only thing I fight with is aiptasia, nothing else.

Always vacuumed but only the top layer, never all the way to the bottom of the substrate. Basically just enough to keep the surface free of detritus and looking nice and white.
