I am going to be firing up my 30g qt shortly..What I have normally done is a water change from the 125g and just run a 110 aquaclear with no filter media..I want to run this tank longer than I normally do so, I am open for suggestions...should I get a hob skimmer..in the past I have added some lr from the sump..
I should also mention that I have sponges bobbing around in the sump of the 125 to get (?) hopefully some good bacteria to add to the filter..
I feel like a newie asking all of these questions...

Use the sponges in the aqua clear. Best plan is to put sponge filters in the sump. When needed, just pull them out and plug an air pump in.

I wouldn't use any live rock from your systems unless you plan to thoroughly sterilize it afterwards. You run the risk of putting something bad into your display tank when you put the rock back in if you don't. The best is to get some sponges, put them into your sump for a while to seed with good bacteria then use them in your QT. Throw them away after you are done the quarantine and put some new sponges into your sump ready for the next time you need them. A small hob protein skimmer wouldn't go amiss. Also an open ended airline is a good idea. You should also use fresh saltwater instead of water from your 125 in case there are any pathogens that could harm your new fish while they are newly in quarantine. Once they have been with you for a few weeks and you can see for sure they are healthy, then start introducing some water from the 125 to make sure they will tolerate whatever is already in there from the other fish. Just my 2 cents worth. :)
