With the group buy rolling in I was researching what was needed to run carbon and GFO. I looked at the price of the the stuff and figured that the cost of this stuff can add up if you are just throwing it out. I remembered from Chemistry/Environmental courses at water treatments plants use basically GFO and that they do not throw them out. So google came up with this.
How to Regenerate GFO - http://www.reef-geeks.com/forums/reef-geeks/1375-regenerating-granular-ferric-oxide.html
So I had more time on my hands and got thinking about Carbon and other things of the sort. Carbon can be regenerated but it requires 800+ degree C temp or some electro chemical reaction, bottom line is that it is not viable people at home. Anyways I can across the Seachem Purigen product. I have seen mixed reviews on it, while there have been no negatives on the stuff there are questions about whether or not it is a complete replacement for carbon. The consensus seems to be that it eliminate Nitrogeneous wastes better than carbon but neglects other things that carbon may grab. But what caught my attention was that you can regenerate it with nothing but bleach and water.
Anyone ever have any experience with the above mentioned things?
Not sure if regeneratable is a word or not
