If you could do it over again, would you go rimless?

I have heard from many that it is PIA because water easily flows over the edges during maintneance or from high flow. You can't deny the looks and coolness factor 8). Also if someone wants a canopy, its kinda pointless.

Let me know your thoughts.....

Thanks ;)

i like having a canopy, keeps my fish and light in, tidies it up and the rim around the tank does keep water in,
i do have a rimless frag tank, and while i cant really complain i am always getting water everywhere.

i would be split on the decision for awhile but i think if i were to do it again i would go normal tank with a canopy. (pennisula tank of course ;) )

I'm kind of against rimless tanks for the fact that I hate seeing a tank that looks low from evaporation. I found the rimless tanks have this problem. The black trim on most tanks hides the water level.

Love the rimless and with a sump u don't see evap anyway. Like being able to see the constant wave too. However I've been tempted to do a canopy to keep light in and reduce noise.

I prefer Euro Bracing for the exact reason that you mentioned. While adjusting your wavemaker, you may find you splash right over the top. Also, fish tend to splash a lot and that extra 3 or 4" coverage around the edges at least helps minimize the mess.

I love the look of rimless but it has potential to be a little messier. Saying that, have you seen my Eurobracing? It's all one piece and is made from Starphyre glass. I love the look of it. I don't think I would ever have eurobracing with regular glass again. The blue just lights it up nicely and it doesn't stand out at all.

I really need to see your tank. I think Flavio is the only one who does the one piece eurobracing and he is working on a quote for me as we speak. Are you happy with his silicone work? I was thinking about going clear versus black silicone too, just to change things up from my current system.

Your tank looks pretty sweet Adam, how thick is your glass and is it the same on the sides and bottom? Also, your overflows should be quiet, maybe they need to be tweaked? I also prefer a canopy to reduce light spillage.

The glass is all half inch. The overflows arnt really noisy it's just the wave sloshing a bit that creates the noise lol. I don't really mind but as u know the tank is behind the couch so when watching a movie it would b nice to have it dead quiet

I Love the Rimless look and being able to see your fixture hanging or sitting on top is nice, My tank was built in Spain,It has a 2 inch brace across the front so it doesn't splash, For me the tank has to be beautiful. I've had lots of tanks with Cabinets and Euro braced and I have to say that I will not be upgrading ever, I Love it. My Fixture tilts up and back as well for easy access. 1/2 inch glass, Starphire, nice lines with black silicone for the edging.  teebone? You need to stop measuring the same old space, There has to be some compromise on a better location. Our tanks are a piece of art, Display them well.

Honestly, from my experience with my custom tank, I would stay away from Flavio IMO. I had 2 leaks in my tank. The first one was int he bottom corner. Instead of making a new one, he made me drive the tank all the way back to Milton. I made him drive it back to me here once fixed. Then, there was a leak in the exterior overflow. They came and fixed that here. Finally, they were suppose to install a black acrylic background on the back of the tank and never did. I told him about it when they were fixing the crack and he just blew it off. He gave me a piece of freakin Avery film to install myself. It looks like crap compared to a nice clean sheet of acrylic....

So after all that, you think he would give me some sort of compensation?? Nope. Not a freakin thing. Needless to say, I have not been back in his store.... All most all custom tank builders would give you a new tank instantly if there was a leak. It took a long time to fix it all and I was pisses right off. I love the look of the tank and the silicone was good, minus the leaks and lack of acrylic backing.....

That's unfortunate about the lack of support. Maybe he gave you too sweet of a deal and didn't want to lose any money? Still no excuse.  :(
His prices seem very competitive, but I think he uses 12mm glass all around which is equivalent to 1/2 inch. so apples need to be compared with apples. Alot of other guys use 15mm which is 5/8 or even 3/4!! I like the thought of 3/4 but it might be a little overkill :D

Is he the only one who offers one piece eurobracing? I have seen some tanks with four piece eurobracing, but they change out the front piece for starphire which is a nice touch.

Agreed, there are lots of options. The wider you go, the harder it will be to scape and do maintenance if the tank is too deep.
