I have the BRS 5 stage which RODI unit and Ive had it a couple years and have yet to change the filters. meter is saying in .01 and out at 0 ppm. The DI resin is looking black, sedimate filter medium brown, and charcoal filters a bit darker. I have a 90 gal and do 35-40 gal water changes usually 2, sometimes 3 weeks. plus my top up water 5 gal per week. Question is, is this normal to last this long? also if I do change media, should I change all or just the ones that look dirty?

Mine did the same. I have had mine for 2 1/2 years and I changed out all my media for the first time about 6 months ago. I did do my DI resin after about a year. I go through almost twice the water. It all depends on what goes into it. My feed line is just over 100ppm.

Oh, I changed all mine except the membrane. It is probably due. There was lots of crap knocked loose when I removed the old stuff, so I cleaned the whole system before adding the new filters

membrane? where is that? I think the DI is refillable according to BRS current units but not sure...they don't even sell a 5 stage now for some reason...just 4 or 6.. as I said I haven't had it apart since original assy and don't remember...lol

I'm curious about somthing though... do you have a high bio load... an I ask this as curiosity only... not meant to offend in any way... is this a high volume of water to be changing out every week?

oh ya ok thx Torx.. mine has 2 of those. great... twice the money:(

You don't get to complain about money related to RODI when you are needing to change so infrequently Sir. Some of us are changing DI out after 6 weeks when you see 400TDS in and water is treated with chloramine! :(

yes that makes sense Eric.. it does say 5 stage watersaver 150 gpd. thx for the help guys... I guess I will monitor the Out meter and change media when it starts to go up.

Get yourself an additional 2 probe TDS and monitor at least the output before the DI which is after the membrane. THe other you can use on input or perhaps after the sediment or Carbon. Assuming it is reading correctly, I'm not sure how you have managed to get it to last that long unless your input water is super clean, and for sure you are not on chloramine. Count your blessings.

I guess I am fortunate or maybe incoming water is clean, maybe I should get a second monitor to be sure.
Nathan, My 35-40 gal water changes are every 2-3 weeks vs weekly, and I've had algae issues and feel more water change volume may help, although I now believe other factors are at play also... not enough water movement/flow and too much daylight
