Just now returning to this hobby after a few years away and what drew me back in was viewing my old pictures of my last tank set-up. This hobby is so addictive and I simply couldn't resist any longer. This time, I decided to set-up my first nano tank to lower operating expenses and to fit available space in my new home.

*Marineland 27 Cube
20W x 18D x 20H

*Giesemann Teszla LED Light Fixture

*Tunze DOC Skimmer 9004

*100W heater

* 2-Hydror Power heads

This time I decided to use dry rock and picked up 61lbs of beautiful Marco Premium Key Largo and looking at it now, I think, I bought too much....time will tell :cool:

Thank you for the great comments. I'm pretty excited to get this tank ready. I just received my skimmer and an additional power head....I'm slowly adding all my stuff to the tank and I hope to have room for fish LOL. Getting used to a nano from a large tank is an adjustment. Water is in and salt added...now the wait...

Plans are pretty simply thinking of 3 Blue Damselfish and 1 Dwarf Angel (Either a Coral Beauty or a Flame)

Coral: mainly mixed SPS with a few monti, torch and brain coral.

It's a great thing we have to be patient during the cycle process as I lost my old circulation pump from my old system....guess it sat un-used too long. My goal on this tank build is to keep expenses down and try to reduce the electrical load to a minimum which is why I went with a nano and LEDs. My old pump was rated at 12W and I must admit was too large (actual size not flow) for my nano. I picked up two additional nano pumps (now running 3) and all combined add-up to 11W. Skimmer another 3W. Heater rated at 100W but obviously isn't on all the time and LEDS that will vary on setting.

Now, I'm back to, impatiently waiting for the cycle to complete. Planning on setting up my quarantine tank so I can start purchasing some frags. Any Sarnia area members have some SPS Acropora & Plating Montipora frags available (looking for blue, purple, reds, vibrant greens and/or interesting combo's)?

It's been sometime since I last updated my tank set-up. I've moved twice since my last post...crazy and lost all my corals in the process. So to say the least...I'm looking forward to the London Frag Fest in April. Last time I was trying a mix of soft and hard corals but have decided to concentrate on soft only...love the motion. Looking for some ricoridia mushrooms to start....if you have some frags I'm interested. Also thinking of a rose tip anemone....again if yours has split...I'd love to give it a new home.

No plans for a sump, just the skimmer and live rock but may add a canister down the road for carbon and filter floss. I perform a 5-gallon water change every Friday after first cleaning off the rocks with a turkey baster then syphoning off any debris during the water change. I purchased the tank and stand from Petsmart....the silicone seams and quality of the glass cutting is not the best but fit my budget at the time. I used to have a much larger set-up but after downsizing my home and selling off most of my supplies I decided to go small and energy efficient. So far so good. Plans are now to stock it with "softy' corals and enjoy.
