skimmer went nuts

Put a brand new sock in the sump and my skimmer went crazy. Had too shut it off. Was making way too much wet stuff.
Any thaoughts.

I wonder if there was some sort of substance from manufacturing left on the sock? I've never pre-rinsed any new socks before use.

Did you do ANYTHING at all? Feeding? Water change? Anything at all except for the sock?

Residue on the sock might be the answer but if it was a brand new sock I cannot imagine why

Nothing else,just new sock.
After googling it, I came across other people with the same problem.
Seems some socks can have a detergent on them from the factory. It will cause the skimmer too produce too many bubbles.
I guess I should rinse it next time I use a new sock.

It was a no name one, baought at a lfs in michigan.
Probably made in china. Dont have the package anymore.
It doesnt feel like the same material as my other socks.

yes, it doesnt feel like cotton cloth like the other ones. The new one stiffer material.
