As a lot of you know I really hate my in-250 Vertex skimmer - ive had issues on and off with it.
My question is how much better is a new octopus skimmer vs a vertex in-250?
Is it worth the money - will it make the water quality that much better?
My vertex is still pulling skim and when its working seems to be working great.

I have an Mrc 3 Beckett. I had an IN reef octopus that was likely undersized for my 150. Take a look at Beckett. They are a bit louder, but holy do they suck out the stuff lol!

My my reef creations skimmer
was the best skimmer I ever owned I just had no room for it where I'm set up right now so I sold it and I would recommend one of those if you had the opportunity to get one I would. my alpha 250 seems to be very close

I have a large reef octopus(Torx old one) and I love it. If I could change anything about it, it would be taking off the collection cup, its on there really tight..

I very much appreciate the feedback, but my real question if upgrading is really worth it. Will a new skimmer make a big difference from my in250 vertex.
It would be a a 400$ upgrade

i had a bubble magnus and customer service was tarrible
now i have a vertex omega 150 and love it but i did blow an impeller and flavio from milton replaced it that day

What sort of problem did you have that involved customer service? I know Ill prob get flack for this...but they actually are the number one selling skimmer worldwide and one of the quietest as well :)

Priced well and work horses, that is why I am wondering what sort of issue arose with customer service.

Let's put it this way.

Buy a Beckett skimmer you never need to replace it. Buy a good pressure pump. It won't ever be obsolete. You pay now or pay later. And if you pay later you will pay later for ever.

I'm going to get the right pump for mine. Should work even better. They are around used. I got mine for 280, including the pump.

I went through 2 pumps within 6 months and was given a hard time as to why the second one burnt out and when they did it took over 2 weeks for my replacment to be received
Luckily Flávio gave me a skimmer to use.

I get what you are saying.... is the $400 upgrade worth the performance difference ...I can't tell you... I use a aqua c ev and have been for 5 years.. I have not adjusted it since initial setup pulls amazing sludge... I did go with the next size up mag pump than they recomended
can you upgrade the pump to over drive the skimmer?.. I found with the recommended pump on mine it never tuned in right...just a suggestion

yea i looked into that but vertex is not cs friendly and its getting tougher to find parts and replacements. You got exactly what I am saying. To add to that - is it not just the design and how the protein is separated or is it just the strength of the pump. the in250 is a very powerful pump

I see that the bubble plates have changed in some newer models.

Thanks for the input - do you find that the water quality is better? have you noticed a difference (not the skim but overall health of the system)
