i posted an amazingly detailed link on ich in the disease section. it goes over all the treatment options and benefits.

ich is in all water on this planet. every creek river lake and ocean contains ich and traces can even be found in drinking water (scary but true) there really is no way to remove it from your system without killing all coral and most fish..... as long as your feeding your fish a proper diet they should never have an outbreak unless transported. any fish breaking out with ich for one reason or another has lost some of his slime coat normally stress of moving or improper diet. it should go away within a week or two if not look more into that specific fishes diet in the wild you may be lacking protein, vitamins or enough sea veggies.

Garlic guard works great it just makes food more appetizing for them and helps boost immune system just as it does for us humans with a cold or flu. Lowering your temp will give some relief as it lengthens the life cycle. Raising heat shortens the life cycle which stresses your fish more due to parasites more frequently boring into the skin causing irritation. Theres lots i can go over but that link pretty well covers them all in the disease section.
