Snowflake Eel Acting “out Of Character”

I’ve had my snowflake eel since July. He’s always been somewhat habitual. Every other day or so he’d poke his head out from his den waiting for his shrimp when the other fish are being fed, then he’d pretty much stay out of sight. Once in awhile I’d see him swimming along the bottom amongst the rocks. Last night after lights out he was swimming throughout the entire tank, probably for a couple minutes, then back to his den. First time I’ve ever seen him in the middle and top of the tank. This morning as the lights were ramping up, same thing. Has absolutely no interest in food, which is strange as he’s usually very quick to take food from the tongs. He’s doubled in size since I got him (first time I’ve seen him in his entirety). Anyone had an eel suddenly turn into an extrovert? My 2.5 ft zebra eel i had years ago did the same thing, but only when it was hungry. Do they get bolder with age?

sometimes he wont eat or come out for weeks.. he has gon 2 months without eating a couple times... they do all kinds of weird stuff... did you know they can "feel" light anywhere on their body,, at night try shining a narrow beam of light on him that he cant see and he will move... i have never seen talk of this but is true..

I like that he’s out and about, but he got himself in trouble last night. Managed to get himself wrapped around and stuck to a powerhead. Luckily, I was watching him when he did it so I could turn it off right away. Doubt he learned his lesson...
