So i decided id look into how to test my tank water for stray voltage...when i did i found i had 34.4 of stray voltage...looks like i gotta figure out what piece of $#it equpiment is leaking voltage now... this stupid stuff never ends i swear..

And im pretty sure ive alread foubd the culprit...my F#@kin coralife supersoaker. This skimmer has been nothing but problems...im going to run some nore tests to see if nething else is leaking..but the voltage was elevated with just the skimmer plugged in...kinda weird.

I think we all have stray voltage.  I once tested and it was like 1000 volts or something insane, but it was a crappy skimmer pump.

For a while I was using the grounding probe as it dropped that voltage reading to 0.  Then I read a fair bit that said you are then creating a current instead of letting that voltage sit in the tank. 

I stopped worrying about it and everything is fine.  I'll bet if I tested I would have at least 35v in there.

According to my tests..everything is leaking voltage... :S is that normal..my skimmer being the highest actually at 44.2

As long as ur not get shocked or electrocuted ur fine but I put a grounding probe in my tank and havnt had problems since

Im not worried about me im.worried about my livestock lol theyre worth more than me lmao my family could sell my livestock to pay for my funeral . Tge weird part is theres still stray voltage with evrrything unplugged..is tgat nornal it reads 07.1

i had some mj's that would shock me when i put my hand in the tank, never affected the fish or the corals

That's true i just got tired of getting shocked myself and no mater what there will always be stray voltage in tank due to fact that water will hold on to some electricity even we produce electricity from movement of blood through our body

It depends on where you are checking the voltage, the ground plane could be different between your panel ground and earth ground and you could be reading that difference.

Your still getting stray voltage when everything is unplugged because you 'charged up' the tank. The water holds the potential because it has no where to go, if you threw a grounding probe in there and took it back out while everything is off it would probably be a lot closer to 0.

Generally everything in the tank might add a little voltage, all our equipment has electromagnetic fields (especially motors) and even the movement of water can create a charge. If it's a few volts I would assume your good.

As for grounding probes, their meant to protect you (only if used with a GFCI) but could create a current that may or may not be harmful to fish. Electrical currents do exist in oceans so who's to say it's not wifi that causes HLLE
