Ok thx torx I see what you mean however in my case I would drill the pop together flex pipe but yes I see how this would prevent syphon and water would just spray out the hole under normal operation.. have to make sure the is drilled on the bottom side so it sprays into the tank obviously..
If you do it on the side at waterline it acts like a mini spray bar without creating much noise

On heathers tank we installed the check valve and it has lineloc at the surface. 2 safeties in one system. Jeff you said you installed a ball valve. How does that work if power goes out when your not home? Lol

I was talking more for maintenance :) My sump can hold the extra water created by return line syphon, as outlet (or in this case inlet) is only about an inch below the waterline.

You know I was jabbin Ya. lol.
But I did happen to find and I have used before an electric ball valve. Under power it would hold open but when discharged it would close. Could be the ultimate in safety. I bet you could find a very simple soleniod valve to do the same to let the air brake in. T off real low in a sump under power it's closed when discharged open and have a long line to break air Just thinking out loud again.
