yes,this is based on the outside measurements of a tank,just the same as when you buy a new one from a LFS,thought i posted this last year somewhere but i cant find it,multiply all 3 dimensions( L x H x D ) of your tank in inches,then input that number here

you dont need a calculator for that... simply do this

take my tank- 72"x 24" x 24"

multiply them all= 41,472 CUBIC inches...
and since there are 231 cubic inches in a gallon ( simple google search will tell you this), divide 41,472 by 231
= 179.53.... so 180gallon...
