So I have a 15 gallon tub I use for water changes.  I run a powerhead in there to mix the salt.  Does anyone oxygenate their water before they do the change?  After having the tank without a skimmer, and seeing the effects on some of the corals (and I really do think it was an oxygenation issue rather than a nutrient one), I'm wondering if running a powerhead with a venturi before I swap water might not be a bad idea...thoughts anyone?

doesn't the powerhead oxygenate it already? I usually point mine at the surface of the water where it ripples, I thought that would oxygenate it enough. Am I wrong?

More oxygen the better
I have a 2 bin setup and I make the pumps splash the water from bin to bin for a couple of days at least to mix and oxygenate

I think there would be oxygen exchange like this, but not to the level of having a venturi pump blasting bubbles into the water, although I don't know as if it's necessary.  I figure that the skimmer is putting out a billion bubbles, and I'm dumping water in that has no bubbles at all.  I don't have a dissolved oxygen meter, but I figure it has to be better if the new mix water closely matches the water you are removing, and in my case, it was water that was just stirred with a very tiny powerhead.

I think if you are only doing a 10% change, it can be lower and not make much of a diff, but ya I can see the level going down with your skimmer off :(

I really was surprised by the difference in the tank with the skimmer out of commish for a few days.  Since stability is so important, I'm looking at the things that are added/subtracted from the tank.
