water change water parameters

Who uses IO Reef crystals and has tested the parameters before using it for the water change?
Today for fun I did it because I have been experience some problems ie a fish dying after a water change and some stn/rtn on a few pieces of sps.

The alk was way high at 11.+. This suprised me as i keep my tank at 8.4 on average. hanna checker
Salinty of the water is 1.026 tank is generaly 1.025-1.026 this is ok
Phosphates  0ppm hanna checker
calcium  480-500 API
didnt bother with mg. usually keep my tank at 1250 though.

Any thoughts. Can I bring down the alk somehow before using the water? I usually dose aquavitro 8.4 for alk seems to be a good poduct. in fact I use the line for alk,mg, cal and does half the does of fuel one a week. great stuff.

I just switched too IO reef crystals. I usually try too keep alk around 9ish. I dose manually every day.
I checked my alk a couple days after my water change and it was 12.5
I stopped dosing and am letting the alk drop down.
I guese i will have too look at my dosing amount with the new IORC.

Ya IO advertises that they have 12 alk 400ca and 1300 mg in the salt... It works out fine for me, I just don't dose the day I do a water change and it balances out perfectly.

thats what i might have too do next time. I only change about 10 percent water but it still shot up.
