Sponge can spread and overcome corals... Although not really invasive in any manner I've seen it can eventually overcome another coral.....if it is in fact a sponge then you can try the exposing to air method.... However, I will testify that even when exposing sponge to air it will jot always kill it and may require manual removal by scraping or such.

+1 tried to air method. Didn't work.

Those black sponges don't grow fast at all..  The zoa overtaking ones are kinda white and fluffy and fast growing
