Where Do You Buy Your Fish

Now that I have a tank on the way, I need to figure out where to pick up stock.

I have Big Al`s and Living Aquarium (Cambridge) near me.

Are there places folks would recommend that take better care of their stock or order from better suppliers?

Where you buy you fish is important, but observing the fish at the store. Then quarantine the new fish is a really good thing once you have invested hundreds if not thousands of dollars in the tank the risk of one fish infecting the entire tank is horrible.

I like The Coral Reef shop in Burlington. I personally have not had much luck in the Hamilton/Cambridge area with the fish I’ve purchased. But it could just be me.

I have personally had issue with fish from Big Als being sick. That being said I still buy fish there. Living aquarium in Cambridge isnt bad. Last few weeks they havent had much though. For me I find the highest quality fish come from either The Coral Reef Shop in Burlington or Sustainable Marine Canada based out of London (although I am not sure if his physical store is open yet). He does post fish lists on here and can deliver just off the 401 on his way back to london which is nice for me. Both of these stores always have high quaility fish, never had any issues with sickness, good variety and decent price.

Thanks for the replies.

Will Big Al`s let me in if I`m not the most interesting man in the world?

I had heard a rumour that Coral Reef shop had closed its doors. Looking at their facebook page that appears not to be the case. Will check them out.

For basic fish, I suppose Big Al`s is fine, but at some point I want to put a group of Anthias in my tank. Those need to be purchased from a reputable wholesaler and properly handled. I`m not sure I trust Big Al`s for that.

Ya the Coral Reef Shop is very much open and seems to be doing well. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and bought 18 aiptasia eating peppermint shrimp (and they actually eat aiptasia). I find there twitter is the best. They post weekly specials and new shipments (basically every week). I highly recommend them. Plus they take requests for items.

Coral Reef Shop is alive. They post on a few other forums, not sure why they don't on TFT actually.

I get mine from Ian at Sustainablemarinecanada.ca. Never had any issues with anything delivered from him.

I’d go to coral reef shop or living aquarium , both of them have healthy tanks and the coral reef shop would do a 3 day quarantine for new arrivals (from what I was told)

CoralReefShop is one of the best, and i highly recommend them.
Things have improved significantly when Red took full control over the livestock ordering and acclimatization practices.
We are lucky to have this store close enough for most of us to visit.

Check them out and talk to Red about what you want and he will hook you up with the best available setting you up for success.
