Just heard about this for the first time last night, went out and got a bunch of gas for the generator 'just in case.  They're worried that the hurricane could make it to the great lakes and gain power again or something?  Weird.  They evacuated my cousin out of manhattan I think is what he was trying to say, and winds are picking up.

If I fire up the generator for 1/2 hour periods I figure I can run the tank and the fridge avery few hours if there is a power outage.  Some of you guys are in different locations, anyone doing any prep for this?

I don't read newspapers, don't watch or listen to the news.  I heard about it from a friend on another forum that's in new york.

I figured some time ago "I don't need news, what's the worst that can happen, hurricanes don't come here"  :p

Good idea on keeping the house a bit warmer today too. it sure is windy.. worst case ill be running an inverter off the car for a powerhead and heater... other than that. I haven't done anything except turn the fridge and freezer on their coldest settings just in case we loose power for more than a few hours(which I highly doubt we will) I also boarded up all the windows and doors, stocked up on ammo, and put my camo clothing and face paint on just in case. Now im just waiting for the looting to begin.. lol JK

It's a freakin big storm.  I doubt we'll get much damage, but somebody is going to, and I know we're tied into the american electrical grids.  There's definitely a chance that some of us will be without power for a time.  After the big blackout a few years ago I heard they strengthened the grid, but who knows.

I have 3 tanks of gas for the generator, I am going to fire up the gas fireplace (first time in 8 years), am making RO water, and yeah I actually do have guns and ammo in the house, but that's because I don't like my inlaws.  ;D

fortunately it's not likely going to be below 0 deg for the duration, so that's good.  Food and the tank are the only real concerns, well and the internet since I don't have any magazine porn anymore, er I mean for weather updates.

We're getting hit pretty hard here with wind at midnight, but we're on a hill facing north, and usually get a lot of wind in  a storm.  Still, I would put this as the second strongest windstorm I've seen in 8 years of living here, and it doesn't seem to be letting up.

Still have power, so that's good. We'll see if we wake up with power though.

Luckily, we bought a generator yesterday  because our power went out at 1030 last night and stayed off for 6 hours.  It was still running beautifully this am when I got up.  We are leaving it running all day today while at work in case the power goes off again.  So far everything made it through the night.

My apex woke me up at 4:30 saying the power went out, it went out at 4:15 so only 15 minutes without hydro for me but some places in Sarnia are still without power, all down exmouth st is out, theres some pretty serious road flooding , lots of downed trees, lots of damage from wind, all my shingles are still on our house  8) my neighbor at our Marina has a 42' Boat that got pretty messed up, it ripped the boards right out of the dock and was just bashing against a metal break wall. luckily I went down there yesterday and secured ours with a bunch of lines to every cleat I could.
