So I threw together an up flow algae turf scrubber for the back of my biocube. My mother had the needle point canvass mesh, I picked up an air pump, placed an "air wand" (dunno proper name) underneath the canvass in the tank and used a piece of pvc pipe to make it easy to lift the canvass out for cleaning.
I have an LED spotlight clamped behind the tank on a timer to come on opposite my tank lights 10pm-10am. My JBJ five light quit on me a few months ago and now I have a bit of a GHA problem in the display.
I cut the canvass to 8.5"x3.5". I have the intank media and fuge racks. I cut the canvas to fit inside of the fuge rack. The pvc pipe is 4 1/16" and I cut a slit in the bottom to slide the mesh canvas into. I used zip ties to give support and hold the mesh in place when I lift it out the PVC pipe sits on a cross brace of the intank fuge rack.
I'll update with pics and let you know how it works.
