Thought I would share the latest spawning event at Incredible Aquarium. In one of our LPS systems we keep a small (6) colony of Apogon leptacanthus  aka Blue Streak Cardinals. Both males  are currently holding young.  Picture shows, albiet not very clearly, the males staying away from the camera with these young.

I have put in several hiding cones for the young so hopefully we will be able rear a few of these.

Pic below shows what this Cardinal looks like. Several of our customers are now keeping small colonies successfully in their Reefs.

Cheers!

Cool!  Depending on the LFS and whether they are on sale or not, I have seen them in the $14-$25 range.  Not too expensive at all, and the blue really pops in person.

Awesome Bill.  I didn't notice that when I was in there on Sunday, but I did see the Cardinals in your LPS tank, along with some nice chalices!

Unfortunately all mine didn't survive my tank issues - I really had to lower my feedings when my skimmer crapped out for fear of losing my corals - but they were awesome when I had them.  I still have one - he is lonely, needs some friends!

Congrats!

I have been trying to get mine to spawn for months. Either I have all male or all females or I'm missing something  Probably the latter ::)

Do you play any Barry white?  Bitches love Barry White.

You are assuming its the females you need to seduce. If they males carry the babies maybe they are the sensitive, emotionally unstable and bitchy ones. In which case i recommend "shook me all night long"

Hey Salty, I have been playing the Led Zeppelin IV -B-side, but maybe I do need to soften the mood with a little Luthur Vandross...

Adam-maybe the males just aren't into being the bitches in my tank. maybe I will dose a little Viagra so they can feel more manly!

My two blue streak cardinals are doing great bill! I would strongly suggest at least a pair of these cardinals because it has been widely noted that these cardinals as well as other behave much different when a single.....pairs seem to be more active and come out more often in the open water.

IDK, as I have had a single who did fine in my 90g without any companions. He would eat pellet, flake, frozen, etc. Awesome fish, as he would swim in the day and night, was a little shy, but not too bad.
