Hello my name is Will. I have been really interested in starting a saltwater tank for a few years now. I have no clue where to begin. My guess is the first thing I should do is buy a tank, but not sure if I should be getting a large or small one? I just want something perfect for a beginner and will upgrade in the future once I get the hang of it! Also is it bad to buy used?

Thanks Will!

More questions to follow once I get the basics down pat.

Tank go as bug as your budget will allow.  Larger tanks while higher on start up costs are easier to maintain.  What is your budget approximately?

A complete used setup can save a TON of money.  Watch kijiji and here for deals that come around.

Read a lot.  Read everything about water cycles the type of equipment needed.

Just get yourself informed.  Tons and tons if jnformation out there

welcome will...
if you can find a decent setup on kijiji thats probally the best way to go. a good starting size in my opinion is 50-75 gallons. gives you room to work with and is manageable.

if you find any deals online, just post them and ask us what we think ....

Also to clarify, are you looking for a reef type tank like we have here full of live corals, fish and interts or more of a fish only tank AKA FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock)?
