What is usually the norm for changing out gfo?
Or Is it a tank by tank kinda thing ?

Noticing a bit of hair algae forming on the sea swirl nozzle.

All I've got to test for p04 is API and its impossible to tell the different shades if blue.

So should I swap it out? It's been in service about 1.5 months
I'm running it in a phosban 150 With a mj1200

me too, i do it ever 6-8 weeks. but you can tell by testing the output of the reactor.. if the P04 levels coming out arent lower than the levels in the tank then its time to change it out, an api test kit isnt going to work for that. you need a hanna checker thats giving you accurate results.

GFO will 'fill up' so the more PO4 you have in the tank, the sooner you have to swap it out.  Also the kind of GFO makes a difference too.  With the BRS Hi-Cap I could go a month and a half.  With the bulk ferric oxide I don't go past 4 weeks.

Oh and API  stands for 'Always Pretty Inconclusive'.  Go kick whoever sold you that shit.  :)
