Hey everyone!
I enjoy reading your build threads so I thought I would start one of my own. I am fairly new to the saltwater hobby and have had my cube up and running since about April 2015. It has definitely been a learning curve, but very enjoyable as well.
I moved houses in November 2016 and wow, what a PITA moving a tank is! A big shoutout to @Pistol for housing all my fish and corals for weeks, while I moved the tank and got everything up and running. Such a great community reefers are! Moving houses allowed me to move the sump from in the stand, to the furnace room, which is directly beside my bedroom in the basement.
The tank is a 60 cube (24"x24"x24") from Miracles. The stand was built by myself, with lots of help from a family friend who has his own word working shop.
Tank cycling in Feb. 2015:
Original sump set up inside stand:
Late 2015. Wish I never added the Kenya Tree or GSP, it has been removed from the tank but still have lots of little pieces growing randomly throughout the tank, it won't die. Lots of cyano and other algae blooms.
Added the Toadstool. Coral placement was/still isn't a forte of mine:
One of the first corals I bought. Eventually shrivelled up and died after many months. I think it had too much flow and may have not been fed enough:
Moved some things around and added my first SPS. Did not have a dosing pump and water parameters were not very stable so did not see much growth:
Had a dino outbreak so Pistol lent me his UV and I stopped doing water changes/skimming for close to 4-5 months. Did a few rounds of 3 day blackouts as well, and with lots of patience, they finally went away... just in time to tear the tank apart for the big move:
