In your cube, most likely you are probably getting low on water in the chamber with the return pump, or you are getting air in the return pumps line back into the tank. Make sure the water level is up in the pump chamber and that all the fittings are pushed all the way together. Rushing water can pull air into the line as apposed to spraying water out.

If you have a sump make sure the return line opening is located in a quiet place in the sump so there are no bubbles going through the return pump. I always have my return located at one end of the sump well away from the skimmer or sump inlet. You can also build a bubble trap near the return pump, this will keep the small bubbles out of your display tank
