As an anniversary gift for the girlfriend I decided to make a live edge coffee table, dining table, and bench seating for our apartment. I started off with the coffee table which would be made from a 60”x18” walnut slab. Tried to fill in the large “lake” first. Guess I missed a spot when sealing it off and the first layer of epoxy ended up pouring out. Scooped as much as I could and put it into the sealed void to salvage the epoxy. Second attempt went better. Voids filled in nicely. I then finished the table with a couple layers of clear epoxy. Next I did the olivewood benches for the dinner table. I only used clear epoxy for these, again they turned out ok. Currently working on the black walnut dining table with an epoxy river. It’s going very well so far, I have one pour left to do with blue epoxy for the river then I’ll finish it off with a few layers of clear.

I love this. I have seen it done a few different ways and colors. There is no way I could decide on a final one although glow in the dark epoxy was kind of cool

I’m using black walnut so wanted a dark river to match. I was considering a fluorescent color as this is in the living room with the reef tank. Would have been nice to see the river glow under the actinics

They are so much work lol. Fill, set, fill, set, eventually sand, coat, sand, coat, sand. So amazing though.

No need to really sand with epoxy. If you were varnishing you would want to do that. With epoxy after 7ish hours it’s still tacky so you want to add your next coat then.

Little update. Both tables and bench seats are finished.
