hey guys and gals I'm wondering what your thoughts are on my newly acquired protein skimmer as I got it for free without a pump. It is a coralife 65 gallon skimmer but my question is, can I use a maxi-jet 400 with an air inlet after the pump to create bubbles or will that not produce enough bubbles? If not could I rig up a double air bubbler system inside the skimmer to make the proper amount of bubbles or should I get a bigger pump/proper bubble wheel pump? Any help would be appreciated as I'd like to get it going asap.

You would need a skimmer pump, not a regular pump. They have a thicker inlet section with a needle wheel/mesh impeller. Neither of those suggestions would work. I definitely do not suggest using a modified anything with that skimmer. THey are very finicky and one mistake will leave a lot of water on your floor. IMHO, I never suggest Coralife skimmer. Several people have no issues, but more often then not I see posts about ones that overflow all over their floor.
