Salt Test

So a thought occurred to me has anyone ever seen or done a salt test?

What I'm thinking is a solid test of making fresh saltwater using exact amounts and performing tests after to see comparable levels of SG, Ca, Mg, and Alk specifically. I'd like to try it sometime but would need a small enough sample of each and every common brand used.

Top of my head I count 5 local supplies

Reef crystals orange and purple
Kent marine
H2o
Red Sea coral pro

I have tried all but Red Sea to date

I'm thinking make up a small batch of each see how much salt was used to do so and levels once made.

there is another site " saltwater smarts" and they did a comparison test and the results were quite surprising...more money doesn't always mean better product...;)

I'm using RedSea Coral Pro. Happy to supply you with some for your test. I can tell you as long as it's not a bad batch that the Alk, Cal, and Mg is almost spot on. Close enough it's within test kit +/-.

That's the one I want to try next I think I'll pick up a bag of Kent just to have this weekend but will look into the test in the near future.

Thanks for the offer.
