I've had a few of those in my tanks....... they are actually pretty common.  I would find small zoa rocks move from one end of the tank to the other.....from the bottom to the top etc.  He would also take out large patches of GSP.

If it was a bobbit worm, you would not forget it, I saw one about 3 feet long in Choice Aquarium of Farmington Hills MI. (RIP)'s DT, effen scary man!
