some bulkhead nano help

So I'm still in the process of building stank and overflows for the 50 cube. However I'm planning on using a small 5 gallon acrylic for a pico. I'm a super noob when it comes to plumbing though. Planning on having the return and overflow as the same hole. What size bulkhead should I be using? He uses a 1'' hole(bit size) so would that be a 3/4 head? Heres my reference link. I'm assuming no valve work because It will be going to a 10 sump with basically no chance of siphon/overflow. Also how well does silicone bond with acrylic and pvc? I'm assuming I should use a bonding agent on the bulkhead at least.

I've just drilled some tanks for 3/4" bulkheads  They take 1 1/2" hole size.  Maybe 
1 7/16".  So if you use a 1" hole size the bulkhead would need to be smaller than 3/4".  Just my thoughts.  If you look on a site that sells bulkheads they usually tell you what size hole they need.  I get mine from  mops.ca
