That was my first thought too....but the way the polyps look to be inside coralites....it looks like it maybe a stunted brown acropora.?

Could it be same coral just ones branching and ones plating?

I think the frag you posted of mine and the ORA spongodes are the same.  I call mine confusa but if you google montipora confusa and montipora spongodes you will see pictures of the same piece.  People use these two species interchangeably it seems.  I think cause ORA called theirs spongodes causing others to do the same but IMO it's confusa.

The original piece you posted may be a true spongodes.  Similar but slightly different.

Polyps are inside because its out of the water haha.

bang on I think.  Im guessing you got the confusa off me too?

Polyps are inside because its out of the water haha.

Not branchy enough IMO.  Verrucsa rarely branch and this is a mostly branching montipora it seems.

I did a database in microsoft access, has squired date, name, type, current condition and photos of each piece.  It's like baseball cards, seeing what I do and don't have.

My 2 cents-
I have the same piece and when i bought it was sold to me as "Green w/ blue polyp spongodes."

The "regular" or more common spongodes has darker almost brownish polyps, this strain has bluish purple polyp.
