RO water or tap water you still need to dose those elements, unless you buy a reef grade salt, then not so much

I use Reef Crystals which is the better version of Instant Ocean and you can usually get it on Boxing day for about $50/pail. I was buying the Instant Ocean and adding $60 worth of additives (calcium and magnesium) and now I rarely dose other than kalk. It is kinda funny that we strip everything out of our water (ro/di) and then need to add some stuff back but this is the only way to be sure your not also adding the nasty stuff like heavy metals, Nitrates and phosphates, synthetic pharmaceuticals that never break down. I read in here someone saying not to drink ro/di and that is not so. It is completely safe to drink ro/di because you still get all your trace minerals from the food you eat. In fact it is most likely the safest source of water one can have unless you can afford to buy water from a 100milion year old glacier ($100/litre).

It's sad that we have polluted our feshwater so badly we cant add it to our tanks without killing everything ....but at least when we drink it we all get a nice dose of prozac, viagra, antibiotics, and painkillers so we can get all violent and suicidal while running around with hard ons and passing kidney stones the size of golf balls without flinching.....

Glad you like them! Usually when I look back and read them I feel like I'm being a dick but I seriously am just trying to pass information in a lighthearted way. Someone (ok more than one person) told me I was a total smartass...they might be right!

LOl! It seriously can be done.....and yes I've seen the method used. Well I didn't actually see "it done" (the pissing in the tank)....but saw the setup.

Although RO water is pure, I dont think it would hurt to add a little conditioner to your water.
the only difference is you wouldn't really have to worry about under dosing.

water conditioner is used to treat tap water to lock up chlorine, heavy metals, etc., to make it less toxic to our wet pets.
additives are what we dose to our tanks to keep our ca, alk, mag and other elements at or above nsw levels.
there is no benefit to adding water conditioner to rodi water unless you want to pollute it.

wasn't trying to offend anyone, just wanted to clarify the difference between conditioner and additives.
