Just a quick post to all in the Brantford area and are on the Brantford water supply. I spoke to the city water works and they told me they do not use Chlorine at all and use Chloramine, so better look at changing that carbon block in your RO unit or somehow modifying it to incorporate the blocks that filter Chloramine because it will destroy your membrane.
If you know this already please ignore if not heads up because it can cause problems to your equipment and to your tanks.

You are welcome. Check in town if you don't want to order from BRS. Some of the water places that sell RO and membranes might have the same thing.

I don't understand why people don't use prime even in RODI?!? There is always a chance that chlorine and chlorimines can make it through.

You can get the Chlori Plus carbon block at any Crystal Clear water place. They're a lot more than ordering from BRS, but if you need it in a bind. You don't have to wait.

Here is the system I have. Apparently the third stage is supposed to remove chloramine.

I always use prime with my RO as well.

Holy, I stopped using Prime when I had my ro unit installed. Sometimes the more I try the more if feel like I got sc*%$d and didn't even get kissed. Would that show up on a tds meter or is that a waste of money too..

Prime isn't designed to reduce TDS technically. It helps bind heavy metals and neutralize chlorine and chlorimines. I highly recommend using Prime in all RODI water. For the small expense, is it really worth risking the livestock you have so painfully collected and provided the right environment for?

I don't think it's a matter of cost. The stuff is stupidly cheap! I think some people (myself included) assume the ro/di unit is taking everything out, and therefore assume there's no reason to use it anymore. I definitely will be using it from this point on!

The thing that gets me is the people that make the RO units should know that most of N.America is using chloramine and you think that they would supply the units with them or make it an option. I tell ya I am thinking of going back to making my water straight from the tap, put a bag of Chemipure and a bag of Purigen in the holding container with some Prime run it for a few hours and then ad the salt. I measured my tap water with the Hana Phosphorus test and got a reading of 10 looks good to me.

You may have just solved my tank problem! Thanks for sharing!

I am actually taking a course now for operation and maintenance of a small drinking water system (for campgrounds, small towns, and residential areas) and the chlorine and chloramine that is used to treat our drinking water react with naturally occurring organic and inorganic matter in water and form Trihalomethanes ...which cause cancer just imagine what they can do in our tanks or the membranes that are not designed for those chemicals.

I'm shocked actually.

We all preach about how fast carbon exhausts itself in our tanks when used as filter media. What makes you think it's any different in our RODI systems?

I've always used prime when using rodi. Unless you're changing the carbon block(and using the right one) every two to four weeks. I'm most certainly positive that some chlorine/chlorimines will make it past your rodi system.

I'm shocked too.... All the preaching I have done on rodi and the pollutants that can be in tap water.... And the importance of knowing your source water well.... And still seems that too many ppl are unaware of their source water contents and how to properly use and maintain their rodi system if they even one.....
