Thinking of adding some Purigen to my system. But without a media Reactor will this stuff work?

I have chemi pure in my system but have been told that with out placing it into a media reactor ( under pressure and high flow) it will not work.

Thanks for any info.

Unless you have a canister style filter it is hard to use. It is extremely fine and fits through the holes in most mesh bags. So you get it everywhere. I found that out the hard way. You can buy them in mesh bags. I found in my overflow chamber they the fine mesh bag closes us quickly so most of the water just flows over it. It does work well though and plus side you can recharge them a few times and get a few uses out of them.

I really like purigen you just have to make sure it gets lots of flow, I have it as the first thing water touches in my canister filter and it works well.

ok, I have never heard of Purigen, so I looked it up. What are you trying to achieve by using it.. just asking, not questioning..

It is suppose to lower nitrates, nitrites and ammonia as well as polish your water. It's also rechargeable and can be used several times.

I used to use it in my canister filter on my cichlid tanks. Made a huge difference in water clarity (in a good way!). Have not tried it on salt tank yet.

It is supposed to be rechargeable but I found in saltwater it does not last as long as it says, you can get single use pouches of purigen that work great, it's properly bagged from the start so it can't get out and make a mess and it is cheap for a single use. Also you get the peace of mind that it's always working at full capacity instead of hoping it recharged well.

I found it to work better in fresh water. I used it in a Canister filter on my FW tank and worked better then Carbon. I have used on the Reef tanks and it does work well, you may as well shut your skimmer off as this stuff will strip the water of Organics and pretty much shuts your skimmer down. If you do try it do yourself a favour and buy the SeaChem " the Bag" as it was made for this product and is fine enough to hold it. Check out YouTube as there are some that have used in it in reactors, not the easiest thing to do but I like the one where the took a Bio Sand Reactor and put the Pruigen in it and seemed to work vary well.

Good Luck!
