Which Testing Kit?

Just a basic cheap API salt water test kit will work. That is if you even want to test for it.

I wasn't sure what a "pico tank" was, googled it and they are really neat..good luck..

I would also like to know what tests are good and accurate for phosphates I was thinking redsea pro or salifert but was wondering if salifert is hard to read in the low range

do you have the light for your tank ? Aquariums by Design just poted their specials and low and be hold they have lights on sale for a Pico tank..

I saw that too! I think those are for fresh water if I'm not mistaken. I will double check though. Thanks!

i always use api for the most part but salifert for mag and hanna checker for phos and of course refractometer or salinity

Here is what I use:

Alk: Salifert AND Hanna. (I like to double check the result on this one just in case, plus they are both really easy)
Cal: Salifert (I have the hanna checker for this one too, but it is possibly the biggest pain in the ass to use and therefore I never use it)
Mg: Salifert
Nitrates: Salifert
Phosphate: I have both the Hanna Phosphorus ULR and the hanna Phosphate. Both seem good.
