Honesty Or Buyer Beware

the tank is done. I bought this unit used, big mistake, first the tank leaked and after finding another one having it drilled and doing the plumbing I thought that I was on my way. Wrong, put in the power head ( hydra 4) and put my hand in the water, another mistake, got shocked..this is starting to be a very expensive cabinet.. Why is it so hard for people to be honest when they sell things..

Most items are best to buy new. Electronics are up near the top of my list. Rarely have I bought something used and been happy with it if it's electrical.

Never a heater for a tank just too much at stake.
Tanks are the next item, glass is usually the cheapest component unless you're getting into over a 100 gallons.
Also unless in perfect condition and in continuous use its not worth the risk. Water damage or having a loss or having to move thousands of dollars of livestock isn't worth the couple hundred in saving buying used.

I have found from experience that trying to save a few dollars on used often, not always bite you in the ass.

I agree with you...I have a couple of used power heads I bought from Living Aquarium in Cambridge and use them only in
my water storage barrels, plus use one to mix up salt water. Both work ok but then again, these were power heads that
Rick and Steve used in the store and if there were any electrical issues with them...they would not have put them out for
sale. I wouldn't buy any used electrical stuff otherwise...

Do you have a grounding probe in the tank?

yup, that's why I just got a slight tingle, at first I wasn't even sure if it was a short..probes are the best purchase that a person with tanks can get,,IMHO...

RULE OF THUMB ! Used is half price UNLESS almost new then it may command a little more - 60 -75% TOPS for a used item. When buying used unless it is next to free you ALWAYS go to the sellers place of residence if ........................ You know where they live and can ask then W.T.F ! if someone does NOT want you to go to their place of residence and will only meet up at a coffee shop then tell them to F OFF !!

did you happen to have just cut your finger nails? i trimmed mine once went to play in the tank and got a wicked sting lmao got my multimeter out to realise there was no short just a cut in my cuticle lmao.

that does suck tho unfortunately we have all been there one time or another. thats why now unless i know the person quite well i am super weary... i have had too many occurences of watching frags get munched in qt after claiming to be pest free thats why i always dip and qt unless i know the tank very well.

im sure you will always help me tho heather i have approval from the "retriever trial" :D
