IMO too many for your size tank. I use three conches in a 48"x24" surface area and I feel like they're under fed.

Some say 1 conche per 2sq/ft

RO/DI water works the best I've found, nothing in the water to be left behind, plus no concerns of chemicals near the tank. Then just use some paper towel to wipe it up.

i just use water if theres any salt creep a little vinegar takes away from having to scrub alot. with snails its better to have a broad diversity than just one kind. i have found nassarius great for keeping sandbed free of excess food a conch is always a good idea and looks cool. turbos are great for film algae especially on glass those things move like crazy but make sure frags are secure. i personally use the ninja star snails for rockwork they love the filamentous algae and if you can get cowries somewhere they literally hit every nook and cranny and are the size of a dime. Dont forget a couple mithrax and a shrimp they get whats too big for the snails.

@EricTMah id hate to see the hours you have logged polishing glass view panels lmao

I use rain water, I won't chance any chemicals around the tank or fish supplies and equipment. I heard someone tell me his tank crashed over some timely and he took out fish and rocks and he found 1 penny in the sand, his kid thought it was like a wishing well lol I've also heard unhappy people are doing it in fish stores alot so that's why most tanks have no sand and most stores now have cameras recording.

Well considering pennies have copper in them I can't see how it's a stretch to say it could cause a tank crash. There are a few older theads on other forums stating how reefers would use a penny or two per gallon of water to release copper in the water in a quarantine system. Though I can't say I've ever heard of people doing this to fish stores, especially since the penny is basically phased out now anyways I can't imagine most stores are concerned about it. I feel it's more likely stores don't have sand in their tanks because its easier to keep them clean and have cameras for much for likely things such as theft or for general security like break ins. Just my speculations though.

I would think there is a lot of chemicals in rain water, it falls through an atmosphere that is heavily contaminated with pollution.

It's been working great for 6 months so far, I live in Brantford and there's no smog here like big cities. There's very little phosphate from what I noticed and there's no chlorine of any types in rain water. Why do plants outside thrive from rain water compared to people watering their lawn?
