Maintenance Tongs, What Are The Best?

I just use the 12 " tongs from dollarama, they are metal but for a 1.25 you can change them out every few months..

I thought all that good stuff was gone. Last time I was there it had dollar store stuff and I kind of wrote the place off. 5 years ago it had some cool stuff but now?

Nope. Down the one aisle it has a huge assortment of different lab stuff. Worth checking out again. Cheap stuff too. I added to my Eco tech marine frag kit, and walked out of there spending less than $20.

I spent around $15 on long curved "stainless steel" forceps from the surplus store a few years back... they're covered in rust, and I don't use them anymore... I've been weary to replace them because I don't want to waste my money on something that rusts again (and didn't want to spend $ on aquarium specific one)

I was weary about the spring steel metal in the universal grabbers getting rusty, especially inside the arm where you can't see and cant rinse easily... I'd imagine they would start to rust pretty quick

...I'm still putting my hands in the tank far more often than I'd like. Am I being too cautious?

I picked up 12 inch curved ones at princess auto in Hamilton about a month ago. They are spotting with rust because I'm too forgetful to rinse them after I use them. Under $20 less cumbersome then the dollar store ones .

I use ehim 24 inch ones ... there plastic .... good for grabbing things

Yeah I got my terminology wrong. I have a 16" rusty curved 'stainless steel' hemostat

They don't look bad but on the serrated edges that grip are very rusty as well as inside the hinge... and I end up putting my hands in the tank with them anyways cuz they're too short

The 24 inch eheim ones would be long enough to keep my hands out of the water though... Hmm

all metal will rust in time just rinse well with ro and dry with a clean cloth my stuff from surplus lasts a couple years before spotting rust. there is an entire isle with surgical stuff and vials if you break any test vials. its either the isle before or after the hand tools about half way down on the left

Try muriatic acid on them. it may eat the rust off. Be sure to rinse and dry afterwards. I use it on my plumbing fittings when they oxidize in the box. Just a Thought.

I tried many things including full length gloves. Most useful - dollar store grippers

Yu can get the long stainless ones as harbour freight in USA never rust
