I might be able to remote admin and give you a hand... first a few questions... can you reach your apex directly by entering its IP address into your address bar? is it connected to your router(with a network cable)? you're using a wireless gaming module or something arent you? is it setup to connect to your wifi?

Would love to set this up for you, but no plans on getting to London and it is my son's birthday. I though Unibob was coming over this weekend?

no wifi built into apex. you need to use the netgear box. probably set it up by connecting it to your computer/router first, follow the steps in the netgear instructions... then once it (netgear gaming box) is set to connect to your wifi, you connect the netgear box to apex with ethernet cable, and go to http://apex/nstatus.sht as pistol said. you should hopefully see the apex after that (might be a default apex password screen)...

I am not going to lie, I thought it would be WiFi enabled as well. However after learning more about the tech side, I realized why it isn't. It needs a wireless extention like the netgear or use an ethernet. My ethernet runs under my house in the crawl space to my router.

Agreed. Never update the firmware via WiFi connection. It is best to have the computer you are using to be wired as well.

I spend a lot of time on the Neptune forum, so have learned a lot. Just a learning curve to anyone new to the system. Much like learning Mac OS when you are used to Microsoft.

Old Network admin/Programmer here. The main reason is that when installing a program the devices have to communicate by sending packets of data back and forth. The hard wired method reduces the risk of dropped packets (corrupting the source file).

So in layman terms is safer to transfer water with a hose from on source to the other and you get the water from one place to the next, rather than spraying it in the air from one source the the next and having a greater chance that all the water doesn't make the transfer.

I'm smart ;) (shh...not really)

Great analogy @Nonuser.

Unlike operating systems on your computer, this is the firmware or the pre Windows loading stuff that gets updated. When updating Windows on a computer, it checks that all the data has been transferred, but because you are updating the firmware here, there is nothing before it to tell it to check the data. Even the coding is a little 'primitive' like typing things into a terminal on a Linux system. But again, after you are up and running, it will come easier and easier.

progress update .... so i am passed where i was stuck thank god ... cant take the credit though ... Unibob dropped in ...

its always like christmas everytime he drops by lol ... brings me lots of goodies .... and never asks for milk and cookies lol..

now i just need to figure out what to put in each plug hole ... like 1-8 .... i got 5 items atm i wanna plug into it ... i know each outlet is a different amp ....

i am assuming

1-skimmer
2-return 12 mag pump
3 ehim pump- for reactor
4 heater
5 gryro 50 watt
6 doser

i am guessing its 1,2,3,4 across the top and on the bottum left to right is 5, 6 , 7 ,8 ???

other side of tank i have my
radion lights but i use my reef link for those ... and ref light.. these items arn't really my concern ... although i guess i can run them over as well... to fill the last 2 holes ... and only my ref wouldnt be plugged in ...

Nice to see you are moving forward. Still lots to learn I am assuming though :)

The EnergyBar 8 provides eight switched 120V outlets. They are numbered 1 through 8 as illustrated on the device. Outlets 1-3 and 5-7 are switched with silent solid state devices and can power items up to 5 amps each. Outlets 4 and 8 are switched with relays and can power items up to 10 amps each. The total current draw for all active outlets must be less than 15 amps.

Some extremely small loads (Aqualifter pumps, solenoid, single doser pumps, LED moon lights) may not turn off when controlled
by the solid state outlets (1-3and 5-7). Use one of the relay outlets (4 or 8) for the device.

WARNING: NEVER plug standard USB devices into any USB AquaBus connector.

What kind of doser?
you can plug everything you have listed anywhere you like, they can be plugged into the solid state plugs 1,2,3,5,6,7
save the relay plugs for small draw stuff.
Once you plug something in you have to program the outlet to do what you want.
