Scammers Hit New Low!

Well folks. ..looks like the scammers have hit a new low and entered the fish pet market. An ad on kijiji " whole sale fish to pet stores and resellers is placed in Toronto. ... being the curious guy thst I am I looked into it. He sent price lists right away, a real wholesaler would not do this. He would not give me his website. He said we would have to do a number of transactions before he would give that out. A real whole sale company would want you to go to there website to full out an account with your various business info. He said I had to deal with all sales directly with him. He at first would not give me a company name... after several request he said it was msr imports. He told me he was out of Montreal. Msr imports is a company from new Jersey. .. so buyer beware. This is a scam. I put this info right back on kijiji to warn others.

It may be just a regular Hobbyist that has gotten the ok to sell from his home as a small dealer and MRS imports is most likely his initials, registered small business. He may not have access to all products but may have access to smaller filters and Salt and water treatments ext. He may have also signed on as a distributor for an Asian company. It is not much different than what guys are doing with selling frags just helps pay for some of the ongoing cost of the Reef Tank.
I am not saying you are wrong but it may be that he is just starting and is nervous and is not sure of himself, could be a 16 year old kid.

He sent me an extensive price list... of all the marine and fresh water he claims to sell. It all seemed very shady... I know for a fact a reputable supplier will not give any price list with out an account... the exception being over seas companies.

Just wanted to put the warning out to everyone. Not your typical situation.

I totally understand Nathan, and you are right better to be cautious. Any big name companies or are they more of I have them before and not them kind of stuff. Not that I asking you to post any names.

Yep, I had one "wholesaler" website and everything with lists of fish, inverts even cools with hardware. I ordered shelf rock, fish a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff. Never to hear from the guy again.

No problem, but there's a lot of people who are shady a d they are also in this hobby. It's worse when they try to get into the sales business

Yes I agree... I'm in sales in the building supply business and I see people get ripped off by so called contractors all the time... reallly gets under my skin to see this happen

As a contractor it really ticks me off too. People who have been ripped off then, put all honorable contractor/trades people in the same boat. Then add college of trades, who do nothing about it, and we have to pay them ...

The college of trades is just another tax installed by the Wynne government. . With there loss in the bi election in Scarborough hopefully it's the beginning of the end. But yes I see all to often the losers out there. And your right it definitely puts a bad taste in home owners mouths not to trust even the best contractors.

There is another breed of contractor out there too. The sliding scale guys. I had an old guy, who is semi retired. Not very fast, but worked cheap, and did a good job. He showed up to an estimate, that I recommended him for, so drunk he wet his pants during the estimate. It's so hard to find good help. Never recommended him since. He still calls to see if I have any work for him. But I never have a job at the moment.

I could call up pretty much and wholesaler and have a price list in my email before I buy anything. Unless they have an agreement with someone in the area. Wholesalers want the business and if their lists is impressive they will hopefully get yours.

Also He might be a transhipper or middle man and that's why you can't find anything.
