If you are putting it directly into the sand bed it will get plugged up and stop the flow... try putting the nozzle on an angle and keep the flow moving. With a bit of practice you will get the hang of it

No advice here. I have not siphoned sand bed since I started my first salt water tank 5 years ago or so. Try to increase your flow so that the 'poop' stays in the water column and from there can be removed through your skimmer or filtration. It will save tons of labor and

So torx I have a question for you just. And I'll open a thread on it shortly. What's the benefits of leaving the sand bed alone

Once you start you will have to keep doing it, its like opening Pandora's Box you don't know what you will release specially if it is a deep sand bed. I made the mistake of getting a Yellow Head Gobi well I could not even try to comprehend what an Engineering Gobi must be callable of after seeing what my Yellow did and then shortly after I pick up a Pistol Shrimp and WOW the tunnels this guy builds amazing. I did pay a price though, my Nitrates started to climb high and fast and my Phosphate with it, ever since I have be in battle with the two. Hair Algae should up and Cyano and Bryopsis. It has been a long Battle and still going.
Bottom line I am just saying, " if you have not you maybe you should not ".
