I just got home and this is what I found.... my clam is gone just an empty shell. ... no signs of flesh anywhere.... something obviously ate it but no idea what. .. I'm so pissed off.

So here is my live stock list ...I have only a couple hermit crabs.... a bunch of Cerith snails... nassari snails...a bunch of baby turbos... a bunch of orange Nudi's. ... two clowns... 3 pj cardinals. ... one springeri damsel. He's been in there at least a month I think and none of my other livestock has bothered it.the clam was picked completely clean. No flesh anywhere. It was fine this morning. Oh and I forgot a peppermint shrimp and a few spiny star snails and a fire fish

Sorry to hear about the loss. How was the clam doing over the last week? With the snails and hermits you have i wouldn't doubt if the clam just naturally died (small clams are harder to care for) and your snails/ hermits took care of the flesh. A good clean up crew can take care of something like that in a matter of hours if it started to decay.

It's been great.... fully open and healthy looking.... even this morning. ... water quality has been normal... so I'm at a loss... I don't think I'll bother to get another clam .... the clam was about 2.5 inchs. I waited months to find that one....lol

Hi sorry to hear this. BUT i'm not surprised. I had a gorgeous Maxima clam once. for a few weeks nothing happened. and then one night I noticed a hermit on it, clipping it. I got in and moved it away. it got chewed up a bit by hermit and I was hoping it would recover. died the next day. Ever since then, I had been warning people about hermit crabs. they turn predator on soft corals shrooms, anemones and clams from time to time. yes one ate a flame nem too. since then, no more crabs in my tanks. snails will toss up your frags. and when they spawn, the whole tank gets milky. and there goes your day trying to do water change.

the only CUC I will use are the tiny spider starfish that usually comes as hitch hikers.
